The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau recently organized a workshop on fire safety and evacuation procedures at its auditorium. The lecture, which was attended by staff from various departments, focused on essential elements of fire, including stages of fire, fire extinguishing principles, causes of fire, and the fire triangle (fuel, oxygen, and heat).
The presenter, SF Abdulkadir Hamza Gusau, emphasised the importance of fire risk assessment and fire protection mechanisms, highlighting the need for staff to be aware of potential fire hazards and take proactive measures to prevent them. The workshop also featured a practical session where participants were trained on how to use different fire protection mechanisms and agents.
Staff from all departments of the Centre participated in the workshop, demonstrating the institution's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of its staff and patients. The interactive session allowed participants to ask questions and seek clarification on various aspects of fire safety.
During the question-and-answer session, participants asked diverse questions, ranging from the safe use of mobile phones near cooking gas to the priority items to evacuate in a clinic during a fire emergency. The presenter provided detailed answers, drawing from their expertise and experience.
The fire safety and evacuation drill is part of FMC Gusau's efforts to enhance its emergency preparedness and response mechanisms. The institution recognizes the importance of fire safety and is taking proactive steps to mitigate potential risks.
