Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Gusau is set to take a significant leap forward in medical education with the upcoming visit of the National University Commission (NUC) in September 2024.

The NUC's visit is a precursor to the establishment of a medical school at the FMC Gusau, a development that is expected to boost healthcare services in the region.

Dr. Umar Abdullahi (FMCP), Head of Clinical Services at FMC Gusau, made this known at an occasion in the hospital recently.

The proposed medical school will offer a range of programmes, including Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), and Bachelor of Nursing Sciences (BNSc).

Other programmes to be offered include Doctor of Physiotherapy (DPhysio) and Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (BSND).

The establishment of a medical school at FMC Gusau is a significant milestone in the centre's history and is expected to have a positive impact on healthcare services in Zamfara state and beyond.

The NUC's visit is expected to assess the centre's readiness to commence academic activities and ensure that the necessary facilities and resources are in place.
