The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gusau, Associate Professor Dr Bello A. Mohammed, has called on staff of the Centre to effectively utilize the knowledge gained from a recent quarterly lecture on oxygen therapy in their day-to-day clinical practice.
Dr Bello made the call during the quarterly lecture organized by the Hospital Presentation Committee of the Centre. He emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and assured staff that his administration would continue to prioritize training and capacity building, noting that the benefits of such lectures are evident in improved service delivery.
He further urged the Hospital Presentation Committee to be more deliberate in selecting competent presenters and relevant topics that address current clinical needs and enhance patient care.
Earlier in his remarks, the Oxygen Focal Person of Zamfara State, Alhaji Isiyaka Sabo Tsafe, commended the Medical Director for his proactive leadership, particularly in ensuring that all wards and units of FMC Gusau are connected with oxygen pipeline systems. He described the achievement as a significant milestone, noting that such a feat is rare in North-Western Nigeria.
Alhaji Tsafe also applauded the Zamfara State Government for the provision of advanced oxygen machinery, stating that the equipment is of a standard previously found only in a private company in the country, making the state government a notable owner of such facilities.
The lecture, titled “Principles of Oxygen Therapy: Recognizing Oxygen as a Drug for Safe Prescription and Effective Delivery,” was presented by Dr Ibrahim Jibrila (ND, MBBS, DA, FMCA). The presentation highlighted key aspects of oxygen therapy, including its fundamental principles, proper prescription practices, and the selection of appropriate oxygen delivery devices.
The event attracted top management committee members of the Centre and other distinguished guests, including the Medical Director of Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau, Dr Aminu Muhammad Nahuche; a former Medical Director of FMC Gusau, Dr Anka Mohammed Kabir; the Deputy Provost, College of Health Sciences, Federal University Gusau (FUGUS), Associate Professor Dr Kabir Bello Sada; and an elder statesman of the Centre, Dr Abubakar Ɗanladi, among others.
